Newjersey Megan's Law

Getting its name from Megan Kanka, Megan's Law was put into federal law in 1995. Megans Law demands that all states put a method in place for alerting the public when a sexual offender is moves into their neighborhood.
Megan was merely seven years old when a repeat sex offender that was living accross the street from her family, kidnapped, violently rapped, and killed her. It was concluded that if her family or other community members had been aware that a convicted sexual predator was housed in their community, this heinous act would have been avoided. With that in mind, the U.S. Congress legislated the "Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994", also known as Megan's Law, without any opposition.
Ever since the law has been passed, Newjersey has gone out of its way to protect its citizens the most recent information regarding previous sex offenders and their current residency. The bill has shown that while sex crimes are still a occuring in the United States, offenses committed by prior offenders are on a downturn.
